"Project Gemini was the second human spaceflight program of NASA, the civilian space agency of the United States government. Project Gemini was conducted between Projects Mercury and Apollo, with 10 manned flights occurring in 1965 and 1966. Its objective was to develop techniques for advanced space travel, notably those necessary for Apollo, whose objective was to land humans on the Moon. Gemini missions included missions long enough for a trip to the Moon and back, the first American spacewalks, and new orbital maneuvers including rendezvous and docking. "There are three visual sightings made by the astronauts while in orbit which, in the judgment of the writer, have not been adequately explained. These are: 1. Gemini 4, astronaut McDivitt. Observation of a cylindrical object with a protuberance. 2. Gemini 4, astronaut McDivitt. Observation of a moving bright light at a higher level than the Gemini spacecraft. 3. "Before the Apollo program would ever be able to make the journey across the cis-lunar void to the Moon, NASA's astronauts first needed to learn how to fly, work, and live in space. Between 1965 and 1966, NASA flew an aggressive series of two-man missions into low-Earth orbit, where they practiced and tested many of the flying techniques, spacecraft systems, science and living skills that would be required to ensure that the voyage to and from the Moon was conducted as safely as possible. The flight program that NASA implemented in order to accomplish these lofty goals was known as Project GEMINI.

Aboard each GEMINI spacecraft was a piece of equipment known as the "Voice Tape Recorder" (VTR). The purpose of the VTR was to give the astronauts the ability to verbally record any thoughts, comments, or observations throughout the course of each flight, primarily during the periods when they were not in radio contact with one of the MSFN (Manned Space Flight Network) ground stations spread out at various locations around the Earth. After radio contact was re-established, the VTR recordings made during the black out periods could then be "dumped" (down-linked) to the MSFN ground station below. Although originally classified, the transcripts of these VTR recordings from all 10 GEMINI missions can today be found in the NASA archives. These documents contain some very intriguing and revealing astronaut conversations that relate to various anomalies they were observing outside their spacecraft during the flights. This presentation highlights just a few of the many comments from various GEMINI missions that I found interesting."

The transcripts of the "VTR" recordings from the Gemini missions reveal to us the crews of Gemini 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, and 11 encountered UFO's and on some of the missions they were able to photograph the unidentified objects. the most famous case is the "Gemini 4 James McDivitt sighting" and in my opinion the McDivitt case is the most controversial because pictures were taken and the images that would have shown the UFO have never been seen by the general public. the fact that McDivitt took a couple pictures of the object and then later on after the mission was asked to look at the images to identify them but was shown the wrong pictures only adds to the suspicions about NASA (Never A Straight Answer) withholding UFO information from the public and will forever help to keep this legendary case firmly entrenched in UFO folklore.







Gemini 4 - UFO Sighting


"Summery: In June 1965, Major James McDivitt saw, filmed, and photographed an object, which approached the Gemini IV (3rd June – 7th June 1965) capsule in which they were orbiting the Earth, passing over Hawaii. He stated: "It had a very definite shape - a cylindrical object - it was white - it had a long arm that stuck out on the side."

Here is what Major James McDivitt repeated many times:

"I was flying with Ed White. He was sleeping at the time so I don't have anybody to verify my story. We were drifting in space with the control engines shut down and all the instrumentation off (when) suddenly (an object) appeared in the window. It had a very definite shape - a cylindrical object - it was white - it had a long arm that stuck out on the side. I don't know whether it was a very small object up close or a very large object a long ways away. There was nothing to judge by. I really don't know how big it was. We had two cameras that were just floating in the spacecraft at the time, so I grabbed one and took a picture of (the object) and grabbed the other and took a picture. Then I turned on the rocket control systems because I was afraid we might hit it. At the time we were drifting - without checking I have no idea which way we were going - but as we drifted up a little farther the sun shone on the window of the spacecraft. The windshield was dirty - just like in an automobile, you can't see through it. So I had the rocket control engines going again and moved the spacecraft so that the window was in darkness again - the object was gone. I called down later and told them what had happened and they went back and checked their records of other space debris that was flying around but we were never able to identify what it could have been. The film was sent back to NASA and reviewed by some NASA film technicians. One of them selected what he thought was what we talked about, at least before I had a chance to review it. It was not the picture - it was a picture of a sun reflection on the window."

McDivitt said the photo of the second stage they showed him was not the picture in question...


"Thank you for sending me the slide of the Gemini-IV photograph. I very quickly identified the object in the photograph as the second stage of the Titan rocket which launched us . . . I am sure that this is not a photograph of the object which I described many times and which many people refer to as the Gemini IV UFO




The object I saw later was indeed not the upper stage of the Titan II used in Gemini IV. It may have been a lot of other things, but it definitely was not that upper stage."

these two photos are well known but they are the wrong images




according to ufologie.net and other sites, the real photo in question was never released..

NASA captioned the wrong picture as such: "(PAO 65-H-1013) was as follows: This photograph . . . shows the satellite McDivitt observed on the 20th revolution of his four-day space flight."

In conclusion, there is no certainty. The publicized picture is not the correct one, and the correct one will probably never be seen. There are many pros and cons and do not have an opinion one way or another


For some, the fact that the true film was not shown is proof of NASA cover-up, they are certain NASA confiscated the real images. For McDivitt, it is not the case. He had checked image after image all his footage to retrieve the UFO, but had not found it. He thought that the footage had probably simply been thrown away, and he gave a reason: many images shot at the time of these missions are over-exposed or fuzzy, and the developers throw them away when this is the case, quite simply.

Gemini 7 - UFO sighting

In December 1965 onboard Gemini 7, astronauts James (Jim) Lovell and Frank Borman witnessed a UFO in space during their second orbit of the 14 day flight. Frank Borman reported seeing an unidentified spacecraft a distance away from their capsule.

Jim Lovell’s communication with control reveals that they are seeing multiple UFO sightings and not the final stage booster of the Titan rocket used to launch them into space.


Frank Borman stated that he could see the booster, and was also seeing something other that the final stage of the Titan rocket.

Part of flight Gemini 7’s radio communications:

Lovell: BOGEY AT 10 O'CLOCK HIGH.

Capcom: This is Houston. Say again 7.

Lovell: SAID WE HAVE A BOGEY AT 10 O'CLOCK HIGH.

Capcom: Gemini 7, is that the booster or is that a actual sighting?

Lovell: WE HAVE SEVERAL...ACTUAL SIGHTINGS.

Capcom: ...Estimated distance or size?

Lovell: WE ALSO HAVE THE BOOSTER IN SIGHT...

Gemini 11 - UFO Sighting

On September 13, 1966 during their sixteenth revolution, the Gemini 11 Astronauts, Charles "Pete" Conrad and Richard Gordon, Jr., sighted an object which they could not identify.


FROM THE TRANSCRIPT OF GEMINI-11, TAPE 133., PAGE 1 (SEPTEMBER 13, 1966):

"WE HAD A WINGMAN FLYING WING ON US GOING INTO SUNSET HERE OFF TO MY LEFT. A
LARGE OBJECT THAT WAS TUMBLING AT ABOUT 1 REV. PER SECOND, AND WE FLEW . . .
WE HAD HIM IN SIGHT, I SAY FAIRLY CLOSE TO US. I DON'T KNOW. IT COULD DEPEND
ON HOW BIG HE IS AND I GUESS HE COULD HAVE BEEN ANYTHING FROM OUR ELSS* TO
SOMETHING ELSE. WE TOOK PICTURES OF IT."








According to Mallan, Astronaut Gordon stated that the object was first seen out their left window, it "flew out in front of us and then we lost it when it sort of dropped down in front of us." This direction of motion is roughly opposite to that of the Proton 3 according to the NORAD report quoted in Mallan's article.

Thus we have inconsistency (e), the Proton was behind the Gemini spacecraft and (f), the object(s) were not even travelling in the direction of the Proton satellite and booster. According to Mallan, NORAD claimed that they were not tracking anything in front of the space capsule. Thus, for all of these reasons the object(s)
could not have been the Proton.


The photographic evidence presented in this paper appear to be totally inconsistent with the hypothesis that the Gemini 11 astronauts photographed the Proton 3 and/or its booster rocket. Verbal evidence presented by Mallan supports this conclusion. This writer has found no evidence to support the conclusion stated by Roach in the Condon Report. Note: This sighting is carried as "unidentified" by NASA.
